NPIHN

Thank you from NPHIN:

On behalf of the family(s) that you adopted, we at NPIHN would like to thank you so much for agreeing to be a Secret Santa this year. Thank you for spreading holiday cheer and making Christmas magical for our families!

Your generosity helped make their holiday very nice and cozy! Your efforts enable us to continue our work in sheltering and providing services to homeless families. It truly takes a village, and we’re so glad to be in the same one as you!

Just as you have helped to share with our families, we hope that your holidays are filled with the warmth of supportive community and the light of family and friends. We wish you a joyous holiday season and a wonderful New Year!

With sincere thanks,

Rachel Falkove
Executive Director

Northwest Philadelphia Interfaith Hospitality Network (NPIHN)

Since its founding in 1991, Northwest Philadelphia Interfaith Hospitality Network (NPIHN) which is a network of approximately 10-15 Northwest Philadelphia congregations, churches and synagogues that has moved more than 275 families—745 individuals— from homelessness to stability. USG has been a member for almost 15 years. The NPIHN program provides assessment and referrals, emergency housing, supportive service and transitional housing. Equipped with new skills and relationships, 92% of the families do not return to shelter programs after their NPIHN experience.  USG supports many of NPIHN’s activities and has hosted several homeless families for two weeks each summer.

Here are examples of some other ways we have supported NPIHN:

  • Each Christmas, through the Adopt-A-Family Drive, the USG community provides holiday gifts for families in the NPIHN program.
  • We help keep Philadelphia a little warmer, with the donation of hats, gloves, mittens and scarves during the Christmas Eve Services.
  •  Donations at our Christmas Eve service are often shared with NIPHN.
  • Many Martin Luther King Day of Service events are related to poverty and homelessness themes. Volunteers have created shelving for the NPIHN office and others sorted donated baby clothes. A team of teens have visited kids in the Stenton Family Manor shelter and entertained them with games, arts and crafts, songs and books. Lunches for 1,000 people were assembled in our church kitchen, which were taken to a number of area homeless shelters.
  • Several USG congregants volunteered to be mentors to NPIHN families.
