Different People, Different Beliefs, One Faith.

Dear Friends,

Is there any better place to be than Philadelphia this fall?  We have not only will have the gorgeous changing colors and invigoratingly crisp temperatures, but also Phillies playoff baseball!  That combined with the exciting launch of this church year pretty much guarantees lots of beauty, excitement and meaningful connections.

As most of you know every month our worship and small group programs visit the same spiritual theme.  October is the beginning of our new small group year.  We still have room for sign ups.   If you haven’t tried the program, or if you haven’t tried it for some time this would be a great chance to build supportive relationships, have meaningful conversations and grow with others.

For the month of October our theme is Quest.  Our most excellent SGM curriculum coordinator, Jenn Leiby put together an inspiring program containing quotes like the following:  Howard Thurman said, “Ask not what the world needs.  Ask what makes you come alive…then go do it.  Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.”  Carl Sandburg said, “Time is the coin of your life.  It is the only coin you have, and only you can determine how it will be spent.  Be careful lest you let other people spend it for you.”  When we consider these two wise quotes together we realize that a life well-spent often involves meeting the world’s needs and coming fully alive.

Our Unitarian Universalism helps us realize not only that we are not alone in our quest to find how to spend the coin of our life.  Our religion reminds us that each of us have a responsibility to come fully alive in our own unique ways.   Our worship services, our faith development for children, our small group ministry, our men’s group and our entire church remind us that we have each other as guideposts and helpers in the communal quest to make the most of life.

In Faith,
Kent
