Draw the Circle Wide

A Message from Rev. Hannah Capaldi

Dear Beloved Community of The Unitarian Society of Germantown,

I write to you with a heart full of gratitude. Since I arrived in August, we have seen an explosion in growth. Our attendance at Sunday services has nearly doubled from last year, participation in our Children’s Spiritual Development programs is greater than it’s been in years, and enthusiasm for our mission is at an all-time high. The numbers and energy will continue to expand with the coming change in presidential administrations, and our needs will deepen as we try to be a place of tender and fierce love for all who cross our threshold. At this time, we are beautifully and wonderfully outpacing our budget and our capacity.

To meet the needs of our growing community and to face the political challenges ahead of us, we will need more funds. Many have already noticed my commitment to a hospitality that includes nourishing and delightful food. Breaking bread together is an essential component of a welcoming and family-friendly community. Many have already observed our need to hire additional top-notch childcare to support our growing CSD programs. It is critical if we are to grow our multigenerational community. Many have already commented on the way worship on Sundays is providing renewed hope and powerful connection. Worshiping together will be crucial as we knit our congregation tighter to navigate the coming years.

For all these reasons I ask you today to contribute to a year end appeal we’re calling “Draw the Circle Wide.” Our goal is to raise $20,000 to support our congregation through its unprecedented growth, allowing us to meet the needs of those already invested in our community and those we will welcome into the fold.

As you take stock of your past year with the coming of 2025, I hope the love, care, and community you have received at Unitarian Society of Germantown will merit a generous gift that will allow us to deepen our commitment to Building Beloved Community in Philadelphia.

With love and faith,
Rev. Hannah Capaldi, minister
