Racism Book/Study Group on Zoom

7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

Our next book will be Caste by Isabel Wilkerson for our next book. We will read it in three parts.

For October 11: from the beginning through Pillar Four

For November 8: Pillar 5 through the end of Part 4
For December 13: Parts 5, 6, and 7
It’s still in hardcover and also available as a e book and at libraries. There will be a few copies to borrow at USG. Email bookstudy@usguu.org before you go pick one up to make sure.
The Group began in July 2018. It is sharing and listening until everyone has had a chance to share once and then discussion. All are welcome and asked to do the reading in advance. We have read UUs of Color, Centering and Black Pioneers in a White Denomination and Darkening the Doorways: Black Trailblazers and Missed Opportunities in Unitarian Universalism by Mark Morrison-Reed, White Rage by Carol Anderson,  Stamped from the Beginning by Ibram Kendi, Think Black by Clyde Ford, Such a Fun Age by Kiley Reid, How We Fight White Supremacy by Akiba Solomon and Kenrya Rankin, Me and White Supremacy by Layla Saad, Disgruntled by Asali Solomon, An Indigenous People’s History of the US by Roxanne Dunbar-Ortiz, My Grandmother’s Hands by Resmaa Menakem and The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett. We also spent several months on the White Supremacy Culture document. These books are all available from the Ending Racism Committee Library.

Treva Burger facilitates the group, email bookstudy@usguu.org with questions or to receive the zoom link.
