Build the Beloved Community by Being Inclusive of All
For the December and January meetings of the Widening the Circle, the leadership team would like to encourage everyone in the congregation to join us for Widening the Welcome. It is a workshop from the Central East Region (CER) of the UUA that we have customized for USG to help us develop strategies so that each of us can be more inclusive and welcoming to those of us who are already here, and those who are not here yet. It will be Wednesday December 1 and Wednesday January 5 from 7-8:30pm via Zoom. This will replace the monthly Widening the Circle meetings.
Please rsvp to WideningTheCircle@usguu.org to give us a sense of how many to expect. Use this email as well for questions or more info.
Widening the Circle is about making sure our congregations are welcoming to all, people with identities that may be under represented at USG and UU congregations in general; for example, young adults, people who experience economic distress, people with BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and other People of Color) and LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer) identities, and those who are disabled, including in ways that are invisible.
We often talk about the need to be more welcoming and this workshop will offer helpful perspectives and support us in developing new strategies.
We will watch video portions of the CER workshop and use the prompts and materials that were used for reflection and strategizing and we will break in the small groups for sharing and discussion.
We especially appreciate the attendance of all who are currently welcome table and committee, ushers, worship Associates and leaders, but we would really like everyone who can to join us.
