General Assembly (GA) 2025
USG sent delegates Lisa Dutton, Dev Howerton, Deborah Coleman, Vanessa Lowe and Treva Burger, to represent USG and to vote on policy decisions that guide the actions of the UUA. See below for the outcomes of the votes. And watch this space for reflections from people who went to GA and a meeting time to hear from delegates and other participants and ask questions.
For this year’s GA in Baltimore there were 3279 total registrants including 94 youth. 2899 were multi platform, 2483 plus 143 children were on site, 796 were online. There were 1882 delegates, 380 were business only, from 592 congregations in 48 states and 4 countries: Canada, France, Mexico and the Virgin Islands. There was USG dinner attended by Rev. Hannah and Zoë Johnston and 14 USGers and some family members.

Moderator Election
Rev. Kimberly Quinn Johnson and Bill Young were elected as co-moderators. More about them on their campaign webpage. The UUA Moderator, an individual or team serves as the Chief Governance Officer(s) of the UUA for six years. The Moderator chairs the UUA Board of Trustees, facilitates the plenary (business) sessions at GA, interacts with congregations across our Association, and consults with the UUA President in developing a common vision for the Association. More about UUA Governance HERE.
Congregational Study Action Issues (CSAIs)
Congregational Study Action Issues are issues selected by Unitarian Universalist member congregations for three years of study, reflection and action. The purpose is to provide member congregations of the Association with an opportunity to mobilize energy, ideas and resources around a common issue. The end result will be a deeper understanding of our religious position on the issue, a clear statement of Association policy as expressed in a Statement of Conscience, and a greater capacity for congregations to take effective action. In the third year of this process, delegates at GA can vote to approve a Statement of Conscience (SOC) resulting from two years of congregational feedback on the CSAI. The CSAI that was chosen is: Abolition is Faith Formation, find information HERE.
Actions of Immediate Witness (AIWs)
An Action of Immediate Witness is a statement about a significant action, event, or development in the world that necessitates immediate engagement and action among UU member congregations and groups. The three that were affirmed were: Immigrants are People Who Have Inherent Worth and Inalienable Rights, Faithful Defiance of Authoritarianism and Defending LGBTIQ Freedom.

The other things voted on were some technical bylaws changes and a procedural business resolution.
The Bylaws review committee will be seeking feedback on the next bylaws revision, stay tuned.

General Assembly is the annual gathering of Unitarian Universalists, where we conduct business of the Association, explore the theological underpinnings of our faith, and lean fully into our mission and principles. It has been alternating between being multiplatform and virtual since 2021 and 2026 will be a virtual year, but they are making some changes to the format, watch this space for updates and mark June 14-21 in your calendar to save the dates for programming online and in person at USG.
