The service will focus on the war in Ukraine. We will be asking what is our responsibility to one another at this moment, and how can we take action to make that responsibility real? Mary will be in dialogue with two special guest speakers: David, a severely wounded Ukrainian soldier who is in Philadelphia for medical treatment and rehabilitation, and Andrew Fylypovych, a volunteer from Revived Soldiers Ukraine, the nonprofit organization that is coordinating David’s care (description below).

Revived Soldiers Ukraine is a 501(c)(3) organization formed in 2014 after the initial Russian invasion of Ukraine to help severely wounded soldiers.  It now operates two physical rehabilitation centers in Ukraine and brings wounded warriors with multiple system injuries to the US for medical treatment and prosthetic fitting. In Philadelphia the organization works with the generous support of the Orthopedics Department at Penn Medicine as well as the Cornea and Retina Services of Wills Eye Hospital. Soldiers are housed in 2 group homes located in Huntingdon Valley and Jenkintown.  Meals, housekeeping and various trips are provided by volunteers from the Ukrainian community in the area.
