Songs and Sonnets: A Musical Service on Spring with the USG Choir & Mark Daugherty

Ah Spring, the return of which is always something to celebrate. This year, especially with a winter that seems to have lingered and overstayed its self-perceived welcome, the celebration is long overdue and we rejoice in song.

Anchoring the program will be George Shearing’s jazzy, snappy Songs and Sonnets, a suite of pieces on Shakespeare texts glorifying love and the pursuit thereof, something that always seems to go hand in hand with the return of spring. “It’s May, it’s May, the lusty month of May” when “the moon shines bright, the stars give a light, a little before ’tis day.”
