Is Joy a Cop Out? Marjorie Winther

Joy is a form of resistance—or is it? When does seeking joy cross over into “toxic positivity?” To what extent does filling our hearts with joy drown out the real need to fight injustice? How do we care for the spiritual health of ourselves and others without losing the need to be an effective participant in the movement for progressive values?

In addition to attending in person, you can join us on YouTube Live HERE. (That is also the link to watch the recording.)

We no longer stream the service on Zoom but you can access our online Fellowship Hour at this Zoom link, following the service.

Marjorie Winther joined USG in 2020 after being a regular visitor for a few years. It was the first time she had ever been a member of a faith organization. “I was attracted to the vision of justice, compassion, acceptance and spiritual growth.” Through participation in a Small Group Ministry and singing in the choir she found a beloved community. Outside of UU, Marjorie has been a teacher in many different settings. She taught high school and middle school science, then adult ed and ended her professional career designing and facilitating workshops at PGW on subjects such as conflict resolution, leadership and working together in teams. “I taught soft skills to hard hats.” Outside of work, Marjorie performs stand-up comedy and storytelling.
