Bonds and Freedom in Family, Rev. Kent Matthies

Our Sunday service begins at 10:30am and we offer multi-platform worship. You can CLICK HERE to access the Sunday service on Zoom, we will begin admitting people at 10:20am. Or you can join us under our big tent in our Johnson St parking lot (GPS address 359 W Johnson St, Phila PA 19144). Our outdoor Service guidelines can be found here.

Together we explore the spiritual theme of the month, “cultivating relationships” within the context of our family lives. Cultivating support, compassion and unity while also growing as independent minded individuals can be difficult. Across multiple generations, or simply within one family unit, how does an individual claim their own thoughts and feelings, and pick their own life path? What kind of family relationships build us up rather than run us down?

A life-long Unitarian Universalist, Kent came to USG in 2002, bringing a vision for the church to “empower people as disciples of love.” Among his other responsibilities as lead minister he preaches 2 or 3 times per month. He also represents Unitarian Universalism in the community. Kent lives in the Mt. Airy neighborhood of Philadelphia with his wife Kristin and their two sons. For more, see his bio on the Staff Page.
