Membership at USG comes with commitments, made in both directions. A community is only as strong as its members, and that strength comes from participation, service, gifts of time and money, individual growth, and the care and support we offer one another.

Covenant is the silk that joins Unitarian Universalist congregations, communities, and individuals together in a web of interconnection. The practice of promising to walk together is the precious core of our creedless faith.

As a congregation, we will…

Honor and celebrate the diversity of our community

We seek to be inclusive of all ages, races, ethnicities, gender expressions, sexual orientations, abilities, and economic circumstances. We encourage and honor a variety of theological perspectives, including Atheist, Agnostic, Humanist, Christian, Jewish, Buddhist, Hindu, Muslim, and Earth Centered traditions. Our spirituality draws from scripture and science, nature and philosophy, personal experience and ancient tradition.

Provide excellent worship experiences

Our minister preaches three to four times per month, and guest ministers and lay people share the pulpit on other days. We have a professional music director, an excellent choir, and many talented musicians, along with intergenerational services throughout the year that offer worship and inspiration for all ages together.

Provide support, caring, and rites of passage

Our congregation cares for members through difficult personal passages. Pastoral care from ministers and lay leaders includes home and hospital visits and other support. We also provide rites of passage such as baby dedications, weddings, and memorial services.

Provide spiritual development for all ages

You will be encouraged to strengthen and celebrate your spirituality and supported in your search for truth and meaning. Through classes and groups, you can broaden friendships and deepen understanding as you explore spiritual practices, along with Unitarian Universalist theology, history, and identity. If you have children, USG offers programs to support them in their own searches.

Provide opportunities to serve

Unitarian Universalists are called to serve our congregations and to help make the world better, and we have many opportunities to do both. Our social justice teams work for better public education, economic justice, more just immigration policies, and an end to racism, mass incarceration, and homelessness, among other causes. Each January we host a large MLK Day of Service, and we promote projects and events throughout the year.

Join us in worship

Communal worship is central to the life of our community. It is where many of us feel most connected to the spiritual heart of the congregation.

Tend your own spiritual growth

We believe each of us is capable of discovering religious truth as it is revealed in our lives and within our faith community. With the support of the congregation, we each take responsibility for our own spiritual well-being.

Support USG financially

As in any home, we operate on a budget, so we ask members to pledge each year what they plan to give. Give until you feel good, and know that your contribution, whatever it may be, sustains our spiritual home. To remain a member, please make an identifiable gift (your name on a check or envelope) each fiscal year.

Share your time and talents

Much of the life of the church is carried by its members, whether in the classroom, the office, the buildings and grounds, worship, the kitchen, on committees, or on the Board of Trustees. We practice congregational polity, which means members are our congregation’s final authority. Acts of caring matter too: we look after one another with meals, rides, help at home, cards, and visits.

Serve the larger community

We express our beliefs through our actions. USG offers many opportunities for social justice work, and you will be encouraged to become aware of and involved in local, city, state, national, or international issues.
