Social Justice Coffee Hour

9:15 am - 10:15 am

Held every month in a corner of the Dining Room on the third Sunday from 9:15 to 10:15am, the SJ Coffee Hour will provide a chance to share your social justice passions and learn from others.

On October 21, we will be joined by Kavita Goyal, Community Partnership Coordinator at the Defender Association of Philadelphia.  She works with community and faith organizations to build support for those entangled with the criminal justice system.

Kavita will be joining the USG’s Coalition Against Mass Incarceration for this Sunday Morning Coffee Hour to discuss the model of Participatory Defense which is taking root in Philadelphia.  This national model helps individuals facing criminal charges and their families better understand and navigate the justice system while getting community support and resources throughout the process.  Kavita will address issues from arrest and bail through trial and sentencing to identify ways in which community groups can get involved and offer support.

Kavita is also a member of the UU Church of the Restoration, and she is a member of the Coalition to Abolish Death By Incarceration which is building a statewide campaign to end mandatory Life Without Parole sentencing in PA.
