Philadelphia Celebrates Rakhi

Through this service, folks will learn about Raksha Bandhan, a Hindu festival which literally means Bonds of Protection, and celebrates sibling bonds symbolized through the tying of bracelets or Rakhis. Historically and in contemporary times Rakhi has been used to build solidarity across communities, particularly during times of strife. At a time with so much war, suffering, and division around the world, we hope to connect the spirit of the festival to an interfaith pledge of mutual protection and global solidarity. The service will also provide an introduction to Hindus for Human Rights and our human rights and social justice work for which we draw on core principles of Hindu thought, while standing in solidarity with people of all faiths and none.
