Dear Members and Friends of Unitarian Society of Germantown, I’m writing to you with an update on our staffing structure and some upcoming changes to our staff team. In the coming weeks, Carolyn Scott will be transitioning out of her role as the Assistant Administrator in the USG office. In her many years of dedicated service, Carolyn’s work has touched almost every facet of congregational life. It is her deft hand that edits the newsletters and the orders of service, answers the phones and your myriad questions, and maintains a full-to-bursting calendar of events. I have also learned in my time here just how many of your stories Carolyn carries in her heart, how many of your family histories and traditions she cherishes, and how deeply her love of this place is rooted. Her years were marked by institutional fluctuations and changes, not least of which was a worldwide pandemic. The staff team has been well-served by her wisdom and by her delicious carrot cake and minestrone soup. She will be missed. I will be leading a search for a new staff person, one who will fill a role we are calling “Content and Communications Coordinator.” This role will help us to reach a broader audience, amplifying our message and our vision across traditional communications channels as well as through social media and our website. Additionally this person will help us maintain our records, supporting our membership growth as we track folks from first-time visitor to new member to engaged lay leader. I am confident we will find someone to serve the mission of this congregation with excellence and artistry. Carolyn will be with us through the on-boarding process, which we hope to have concluded by mid-April. We will be sure to make time and space for us all to wish Carolyn well in her next venture as a regular and beloved member of USG and to shower her with gratitude for her time as Assistant Administrator. In love and faith, Rev. Hannah |
Note from Carolyn Scott |
Dear USG Members and Friends, I write today to let you know that I will soon be leaving the position of Assistant Administrator to make way for a person in the new position of Content and Communications Coordinator, a position that will require more technological skills than I have. Please know that I hope to remain among you for a long while as a fellow congregant, enjoying this beloved community. Headed by Rev. Hannah, our church staff currently consists of excellent, highly skilled, and congenial people, and I have no doubt the new position will be filled by another such person. So I am writing to say goodbye as your Assistant Administrator but I am also I writing to tell you how very, very much I have loved this job. I have loved editing, word-smithing, writing, creating, and learning so many, many new skills — thanks to Gloria Guldager and Celeste Lamb and Google. I have loved working with the world’s best colleagues. I mean… I am working in a church! And in this particular church, besides the kindness and good will that one might expect in any church, there is also openness to different ideas and different people, opportunities to grow personally and professionally — and so much good humor and laughter. I hold dear and especially thank Rev. Kent Matthies and Gloria Guldager, who first thought I could do the job. And I thank others who have been so gracious, pleasant, and fun to work with, even in a pandemic: Celeste Lamb, Ryan Hurd, and Mike Rogers are high on that list; my co-editors, Marilyn Dyson on the monthly Social Justice newsletter, and Abbey Porter for several years on the Mindfulness newsletter; and the many other terrific folks whose volunteer work brought them into the office and who often brightened my day with cheer and humor. Thank you — for your patience, your spirit of justice, and your many kindnesses. It has been a joy to work with you and for you. Warm regards, Carolyn Scott |
