Exploring Elderhood – All in the Family
Great News! A distinguished poet and writer will be coming to our next Exploring Elderhood on Friday, December 13 at 2:00pm to present a uniquely fitting program for all of us: Age as a Creative Experience: Our Deep New Phase of Life, A Poetic Forum & Dialogue for Exploring Diverse Perceptions. The poet’s name is Michael Whelan and if you are wondering if he is any relation to Gerry Whelan…he is his big brother! And Gerry will be so happy to share him with you.
This program is one that he has presented to rave reviews elsewhere and it will be engaging as well as enlightening. He will put you to work doing a bit of writing yourself, right in the program. Michael has been a spiritual seeker for all of his life and has chronicled his journey in a book of poems about his on-again off-again relationship with God entitled “After God” which you can get a peek at on Amazon. This will be a really outstanding afternoon, and it will be fun; he will not take us to dark spaces but to where the light shines. So please make a real effort to be with us on Friday, December 13 at 2 PM to welcome Gerry’s big brother, Michael, to Exploring Elderhood. Oh, and bring goodies to eat, drink and share!

Exploring Elderhood meets on the second Friday of each month at 2PM in the USG Assembly Room (from October through June.) Its purpose is to celebrate the path, with emphasis on the spiritual path, of all who are aging (that’s all of us!) but especially those who consider themselves Elders (or wannabe Elders) and is open USG members, guest and visitors with no minimum age.
Each month a team of Exploring Elderhood members prepare and present a program on a relevant topic and after initial presentation there is generally a time for small group discussions and then a reconvening to share experiences. Each session is also followed by a potluck TGIF with wine and cheese, tea and crumpets and such. At all times our goal is to accentuate the positive and have fun together as we share our journeys into the second act of life! And we do!
