Immigration Rally in Harrisburg

8:30 am - 3:30 pm

UUPLAN Calling on Gov. Wolf to Close Berks Detention Center for Immigrant Families
UUs in Reading and across PA have been engaged for two years in a campaign to end the detention in Berks County of immigrants from El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras who are here seeking asylum from life-threatening conditions.
The time is now to Shut Down the Berks County Residential Center and release the mothers and children. Governor Wolf has the power to do this.  His action prior to the advent of the Trump administration with its anti-immigrants commitments is critical.

Many of these families are facing a second Christmas incarcerated after seeking asylum from violence in their country of origin. We want this inhumane and illegal practice to end now. The Center is operating without a license and Governor Wolf has the power to close its doors.

Yvonne Marlier and Dennis Brunn of USG are driving to Harrisburg for a mass rally at the Capitol on Monday, December 19th at 11 am. Contact Dennis (dbrunn@verizon.net) if you would like to carpool from USG leaving by 8:30 am and returning by 3:30 pm.

Unable to join us on Monday? You can still help by making a call to the Governor and simply say “As a person of faith, I urge you to close the Berks Center and let the families go home for the holidays while awaiting their asylum hearings.” The number to call is: 717-787-2500.
