Music Service: The Immigrant Experience, USG choir and soloists and Mark Daugherty, Music Director

Immigration has become a hot button issue in 21st century America. It seems we sometimes lose track of the fact that real human beings, looking for a better life for themselves and their families, are involved.  John Kramer, a colleague of Mark Daugherty’s in the UU Musicains Network, has recently composed an extended work called The Immigrant Experience featuring texts by George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Lyndon B. Johnson, George W. Bush, James Madison, Robert F. Kennedy and Thomas Paine. The piece had a sensational premiere in Massachusetts in November and the choir has voiced their strong emotional connection with the music and words. We will be presenting the first performance in Philadelphia (probably also the Pennsylvania premiere.) Come and share this experience as we present powerful topical music for our time. Bring a friend, maybe even someone who doesn’t normally attend services here.
