Charles, a USG member, believes much of the polarization of our country can be overcome by application of UU principles and that we can use the persistent, unremitting effect of the elements upon our landscape as an example. And that while we can be transported by the awesome beauty that we see, there is a lesson to be learned, a lesson that we can incorporate into our own work in improving our national culture.

Charles was raised in the Catholic Church, wandered aimlessly through a 35 year period of atheism and finally developed a spiritual center to his life through his step-son’s drug addiction and the 12-step program influence of Nar-Anon and Al-Anon.

Charles joined USG in October, 2004 and has held several volunteer positions including Transitions Team, Budget & Finance Committee member, Buildings & Grounds committee co-chair, Strategic Planning Council chair, Finance Council chair and Board of Trustees member. Currently Charles sings in the USG choir, teaches UU-101 and is a Worship Associate. This is Charles’ fourteenth sermon at USG.
