A small band of folks risked their lives to keep the Torah alive. Any analysis would have predicted that their fuel would run out — but it lasted! An old, grouchy, selfish man’s heart breaks open and receives the grace of gratitude and generosity. A baby born in dubious circumstances leads people in the ways of God for centuries. How do we believe any of it? Standing at the edge of mystery lightens burdens and opens lives to new horizons heretofore unimaginable.
