Film: Backpack Full of Cash

2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

USG’s Public Education Initiative (PEI) and the Alliance for Philadelphia Public Schools (APPS) are jointly sponsoring a screening of the documentary, Backpack Full of Cash. Light refreshments and opportunity for discussion after are part of the event.

BACKPACK FULL OF CASH, created by filmmakers Sarah Mondale and Vera Aronow and narrated by Matt Damon, is a cautionary tale about how, in cities like Philadelphia, privatization and funding cuts have had a devastating impact on public schools and on the most vulnerable children who rely on them. The film also showcases a model for improving schools – a well-resourced public school system in Union City, New Jersey, where poor kids are getting a high quality education without charters or vouchers.
