United Way Launches Coalition to Help Those Impacted by Government ShutdownUnited for U.S. is a joint effort by corporate partners, organized labor, the United Way network and nonprofits to assist furloughed federal workers and others who are struggling during the ongoing government shutdown. The 2-1-1 non-emergency service anchors United Way’s community support by providing information about local social services, including the availability of public benefits and corporate assistance programs. 2-1-1 connects callers to resources and aid for monthly living expenses. Call 2-1-1 or go to 211.org.As part of its long-standing association with the labor movement, United Way is working with a number of organizations, including the AFL-CIO, the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) and the National Treasury Employees Union (NTEU), to distribute resources that are available to assist with needs and living expenses.
PHILABUNDANCE – EMERGENCY MARKETOn Wednesdays, Philabundance, Share Food Program, Nutritional Development Services and Campbell’s will host a new weekly distribution for government employees from 10-11 AM located under the 95 overpass on Front & Tasker in South Philadelphia. The distribution will run until reimbursement checks are issued. Please bring your government ID. In case of bad weather, call 215-220-1920.
