Postponement of In-Person Worship Services Announced

August 12, 2021

Dear USG Family,

With regret, we want to inform you that USG has postponed our return to in-person worship indefinitely. Although we know many of us really miss being together in-person in the sacred act of worship, we believe we are doing the right thing. The Covid pandemic is surging again with all important numbers on the rise in the US and Philadelphia. Hence, we are not going forward with our previously announced plan to open our sanctuary for worship on Sunday, August 22.

Instead, on that Sunday, August 22, we will continue engaging via Zoom but will begin worship at 10:30am. Please note this time change.

We want to thank the Moving Ahead Steering Committee and the Covid Task Force for their ongoing, intelligent, hard work. Last night our Covid Task Force met (with four medical professionals) and unanimously decided due to the surge that this is the wrong time to begin worship in-person.

We are keenly aware that lack of in-person interactions at church brings sadness and isolation to many.  Please stay tuned in the upcoming weeks for more opportunities to get together, including outside on our beautiful property. We are highly committed to creating opportunities for connection, sharing, justice making and joy.

In Faith,

Andrea Barsevick, President
Rev. Kent Matthies, Minister
Andrea Parry, Chair, Moving Ahead Steering Committee
William Dowdall, Chair, Covid Task Force
