This Sunday’s worship associate, who selected many of the readings, is Molly Collet. The hymns were selected by the congregation and will be organized and presented under the leadership of Dr. Baker Purdon.
Baker received his Ph.D. in March of 2024 in Music Education and Choral Conducting at Temple University where he was awarded a University Fellowship. While at Temple, Baker was awarded the 2022 Presser Foundation Graduate Music Award which enabled him to record his debut album, Walking Through the Valley: Choral Music from Black Composers, 1919-2022. He was also named the inaugural Presser Foundation Graduate Music Fellow for 2022-2023. Baker’s research on the imposter syndrome in music education has received national attention and has been shared at conferences across the United States. In addition to his academic pursuits, Baker is the collaborative accompanist for the Philadelphia Gay Men’s Chorus and has been an active liturgical musician. He comes to us with a wealth of experience, a love for making meaningful music, and a commitment to help us reach our goal of creating a diverse and vibrant music program for all ages. On May 20, 2024, Baker announced that he had accepted a position as the full-time Director of Music Ministry at Jefferson Unitarian Church in Golden, CO, just outside Denver. His last Sunday at USG will be July 7th, 2024.
